Introduction to Bed and Breakfast Recipes

In February of 1997, my husband Gary and I and our family opened our door for business as the first successful bed and breakfast in New Ulm, MN, the Deutsche Strasse (German Street) Bed and Breakfast. During these past 13 years our guests have commented on their enjoyment of the breakfast cuisine served here and I have shared many of the recipes that I use. My goal is to someday publish a cookbook featuring many of these tried and true recipes as well as to include anecdotes from our many experiences in the hospitality business.

I am implementing a new category on our blog in which to publish some of the more popularily enjoyed and requested recipes.

Our breakfasts are also enjoyed with our signature blend coffee. The beans are ground the morning on which each breakfast is served. We brew the coffee with filtered water. We have two mottos at the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast. One is, “Wake up and smell the coffee,” and the second is, “There is always room for a dessert at breakfast.”

Beauty in Souther Minnesota

As an innkeeper of the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast in New Ulm, MN, I find that it is important to my guests that I provide information to them about items of interest in the area.

As part of my research and explorations and using New Ulm as the base, I discovered the Ramsey Falls, which are located in Redwood Falls in Alexander Ramsey Park. Redwood Falls is an easy trip from New Ulm and worth visiting the largest municipal park in Minnesota. The park spans 217 acres with vast features that have something for everyone!
Ramsey Park is a wonderful example of Minnesota’s commitment to it’s natural resources and beauty.

Also, in the lower part of the park one may find a variety of picnic and play areas. The lower camping shelter, is a favorite for gatherings and picnics. The zoo is modest in size, but would be worth a short visit.

New Ulm is the site of the second annual charity chili cook-off at Schell’s Brewery on May 21, 2011. At the Deutsche Strasse B&B we are excited for this great fund raiser. Being in the “spirit of this event”, if reservations are made for one of our comfortable guest rooms for the weekend of the cook-off, we will present at check-in to that person a free Schell’s faceted glass beer mug. Stay two consecutive nights and receive a second mug free as well. Please mention the cook-off when making the reservation.
